The State Inspection Committee (SIC) is appointed by the State Government and comprises of a maximum of seven members. These include members from the Juvenile Justice Board or Child Welfare Committee, the State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, the State Human Rights Commission, State Adoption Resource Agency, medical and other experts, voluntary organisations and reputed social workers. The Member-Secretary of the State Child Protection Society is the Chairperson of the State Inspection Committee.

The SIC carries out inspections of the Child Care Institutions in the State and submits a report to the Secretary of the department implementing the Juvenile Justice Act. During such visits, the Committee interacts with the children to determine their well-being and get feedback. It also makes recommendations for improvement and development of the Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and rules made there under, to the SCPS or DCPU for appropriate action.
